Empereal-KGDS was selected to setup a very innovative, high performance solar thermal pilot plant in order to demonstrate the ability to generate high temperature and high-pressure steam from solar energy and the storage of thermal energy during the day time to allow a continuous and on-demand availability of heat energy.
Empereal-KGDS used its LFR system along with a newly developed secondary concentrator and evacuated receiver tubes to demonstrate the production of steam at over 400 degrees Celsius superheated steam from the solar thermal system. This system was implemented in collaboration with IIT Madras.
In collaboration with IIT Guwahati, Empereal-KGDS also designed and developed a thermal storage system based on a combination of a Phase Change Mode (PCM) system to store sensible heat and an Accumulator to store the latent heat energy in the system. The storage system demonstrated the charging and discharging of heat energy during the day and nighttime respectively.
